SIA Security Guarding Training

The Level 2 Security Guarding course is an accredited qualification which has been developed to meet the requirements of the Security Industry Authority (SIA). It is based on the relevant SIA Specifications for Learning and Qualifications and provides the necessary skills and knowledge for those who wish to apply for an SIA licence and work as a Security Guard.

Ideal for anyone who wishes to work in the private security industry in the United Kingdom. With the Security Guarding licence individuals can work in all static premises, a few examples are: shopping malls, retail, construction sites, residential sites, schools, hospitals, banks etc.

However Security Guard licence holders cannot work in regulated entertainment venues or in premises that sell alcohol. For that you need to attend a Door Supervisor course.

FIRST AID CERTIFICATE - If you are taking Door Supervision or Security Officer training, you will need to show that you hold a current and valid First Aid or Emergency First Aid certificate that meets the requirements of the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. It is an SIA requirement that each learner is sufficiently qualified in First Aid or Emergency First Aid. This certificate must be valid for at least 12 months from the security course start date.

You can apply for the badge on the SIA website as soon as you receive the certificate. SIA will check the information you have given them against the information they hold and information held by other government agencies. They will use all of that information to decide whether you meet their published licensing criteria. SIA can take up to 25 working days to evaluate your application and send the badge to your house. If they judge it necessary to refuse your licence application they will write to you to explain why; you will then have 21 days from the date on their decision letter to provide a response.

Information on contacting the SIA can be found on their Contact Us page, alternatively, you may call them on 0300 123 9298. Please note that due to the volume of queries the SIA receives you may be in their phone queue for 30 minutes or more on average.

The licence application fee is £190 for a three-year licence. Some people may need more than one licence, for example, a Door Supervisor and CCTV licence; in such cases, the second licence will be discounted by 50%.

SIA have set minimum guided learning hours for all their qualifications, they are extremely strict and make no exceptions when it comes to course timings, people who start later/finish earlier than the advertised timings will be removed from the course.
